The IR System combines the STARBoard with the Extension Tray and IR Shield, forming a complete patient positioning system for left side radial access and providing additional radiation protection.
The IR System is a radiology positioning device that facilitates ease of radial access during Interventional Radiology procedures, while providing improved patient comfort and additional cath lab radiation protection for the operator. It is designed for left-side radial access only and working on the left-side of the patient.
Designed to work with any IR procedure table, the IR System is quick to install and adjust to variations in patient size and arm position. Set-up takes seconds with no consumable components required. The STARBoard allows for quick, effective presentation of the patient’s wrist during distal radial access, and for proximal radial access when the hyper-extended position is preferred. Once access is achieved, a simple adjustment of the STARBoard allows you to rotate the patient’s wrist to a more relaxed, medially-rotated position during the rest of the procedure. The system facilitates left arm access when working on the patient’s left side. Made with carbon fibre for superior strength, radiolucency and durability, the STARBoard is lightweight and compact.
The STARBoard will hold the patient's arm in the position you set with the adjustable friction bearings while remaining free to rotate and adjust.
The clip-on Extension Tray transitions your guide wire from the radial access site to your draped trolley and is a stable work surface for wire manipulation.
The vertical Shield provides additional X-ray scatter radiation protection with 0.5mm Lead (Pb). Click here to check the scatter radiation report.

Radial artery access approach via the patients' left side for procedures such as Embolizations / TACE.
Radial artery access approach via the patients' left side for procedures treating PAD / CLI.
How much protection from scatter radiation does it offer?
The shield includes 0.5mm lead (Pb) for scatter protection.
What is the extension tray for?
The extension tray is included to support the wire as it transitions from the patient's wrist to the draped surgical trolley.
Is it easy to clean?
The system components can be easily wiped with disinfectant between cases. As alternate, consider placing it within a clean bag that is disposed of.
My arm pad was stained with blood post-procedure, and we can’t remove it, what should we do?
Before placing the patient’s arm on the Arm Support Pad and Armrest, we recommend draping the Arm Support Pad prior to use to avoid blood contamination as the soft foam padding is subject to staining.
The arm pad can be reused after disinfection, provided there is no visible damage or tearing.
If you are still concerned with the presence of bloodstains, please feel free to contact us to purchase a replacement Arm Support Pad.
What's the difference between the STARSystem and the IR System?
While both systems can be used for radial access, the STARSystem is primarily designed for working on the right-side, and the IR System, for the left.
For procedures that require right-side radial access, often seen in the cardiovascular space, we recommend using the STARSystem - this comes with a STARBoard, STARTable + Shield, and the STARSupport. If left-side radial access is required, but the clinician prefers to work on the right-side, then the STARSupport component can we used to hold the left-arm in place. Note that the STARTable + Shield can only be used on the right side.
For procedures that require left-side radial access, often seen in interventional radiology, we recommend using the IR System - this comes with a STARBoard, Extension Tray and the IR Shield. The Extension Tray component helps to transition the guide wire from the patient to your draped trolley.
