Adept Medical successfully launched the Overhead Arm Support in March 2019, receiving great interest from clinicians in the Radiology and Diagnostic imaging sectors. The New Zealand based design and manufacturing company has been in discussions with imaging professionals and found there is additional need for patient positioning during magnetic resonance imaging. Adept Medical has made product improvements to the current design, removing metallic components to ensure MR compatibility, and is pleased to launch the device into market.
The Overhead Arm Support is designed to comfortably support the patient’s arms, eliminating extreme shoulder flexion, allows for abdominal access and removes unwanted artefacts when imaging with MR, C-Arm or CT machines. The Overhead Arm Support has been designed for use with existing lab and imaging equipment and fits within the bore of a 70cm CT and MRI centre, and can be used with any C-Arm imaging centre. The unique wing design can support one or both arms and will accommodate a wide range of patient sizes. The Overhead Arm Support facilitates improved patient comfort and procedural repeatability.
“We had compelling interest from clinical teams and distributors to adapt this product for the MRI application. With the same procedural requirements as C-Arm & CT Imaging it seemed like a logical progression for the product. Our challenge has been removing all metal from the product and maintaining the same level of functionality.”- Matt Lazenby, Adept Medical’s Product Development Manager.
Soft, pliable, latex-free polyurethane straps may be used for additional patient safety and comfort. The straps are easily installed and adjusted to loosely contain the patient’s arm. Two strap mount locations for each arm ensures that the patient’s arms are fully supported, reducing the risk of arm displacement and aiding patient assurance and comfort.
The Overhead Arm Support is crafted from high-performance engineering plastics for enhanced rigidity, durability, and resistance to chemical attack. It is lightweight at only 1.5 Kg, compact and can be easily dismantled for storage. The wing and daggerboard can be conveniently removed for cleaning. Suitable material selection and a unique metal-free spring design has been developed to ensure the device meets MR compatibility requirements.
The Overhead Arm Support will be available from Adept Medical from 1st April 2021.
